About Temple Beth El

We are a regional center for Jewish spirituality, culture, and learning in Humboldt County. We are an inclusive congregation with participants from all streams of Jewish life and observance. We are a welcoming congregation.

The congregation was established in 1954. Our lovely building, including beautiful local redwood paneling and craftsmanship, was dedicated in 1964. Since 1960, we have been affiliated with Union of Reform Judaism (URJ).

We offer weekly Shabbat services, in a variety of modalities and traditions, led by the Rabbi and members of the community. Every Shabbat morning we have a lively, member-led Torah study. We enthusiastically celebrate the Jewish holidays. We sponsor a wide range of guest presenters to expand our cultural, spiritual, and religious life. Our Children’s Education Program strives to provide meaningful, enjoyable, Jewish education culminating in a joyful Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration.

We encourage you to explore our website and introduce yourself to our members. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Temple Beth El is dedicated to being a welcoming congregation and providing a place of worship, a Jewish spiritual community, lifelong Jewish education, religious guidance, a Jewish perspective on interfaith community concerns, and a stable foundation for future generations.

Temple Beth El serves this mission through:

Avodah: Worship in a Jewish congregation that offers a variety of traditional and evolving spiritual practices for the religious development and fulfillment of our members.

Chavurah: An open, dynamic community of individuals and families of diverse religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds; abilities; gender identities and sexual orientations who are committed to creating a warm and welcoming Jewish congregation.

Talmud Torah: An enlightened program of Jewish learning for members and the community at large.

K'lal Yisrael: Strengthening our commitment to our community, the State of Israel, and the Jewish people of all lands, and striving to establish understanding and commonality among the various expressions of Judaism.
